    The Charleston phosphate area lies northwest of Charleston, S. C., between the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. The area of detailed study in this report is the Ladson 7K-minute quadrangle, shown in figure 1. Reconnaissance regional studies also were made and the results are included in this report.
